I made Lasagna for us forever ago and said I would have the recipe up the next day. That didn’t happen, obviously. Well, here it is today. Sorry it took so long to get it up here. This is a great recipe. It isn’t the quickest thing to make, but it isn’t difficult and will definitely please your diners.

Recipe
INGREDIENTS
- 12 lasagna noodles
Sauce
- 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup minced onion
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed (I used more like 4 or 5 small cloves)
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
- 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Filling
- 21 oz part skim ricotta cheese
- 3 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese, divided
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg lightly beaten
DIRECTIONS
1. Cook sausage, ground beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
2. Mix ricotta cheese, 2 cups mozzarella, 1/4 cup Parmesan, parsley and egg until well blended; set aside.
3. Preheat oven to 350.
4. Cook lasagna noodles to package directions.
5. Assembly: Place 1 cup meat sauce on bottom of 13×9-inch baking dish. Layer 3 lasagna noodles, 1/3 ricotta cheese mixture and 1 cup meat sauce. Repeat layers 2 more times. Top with remaining 3 noodles and sauce.
6. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup parmesan cheese. Cover tightly with greased aluminum foil.
7. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 minutes. Cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

There you have it. This is by far the best lasagna I’ve made. If you like lasagna at all I’m sure you will love this recipe. Please let me know if you try this out. I would love to know what you thought and if you changed anything or did anything differently.
